Are you suffering from Histamine Intolerance?

Histamine intolerance is a condition where there is a buildup of histamine in the body. This high histamine level can cause a range of symptoms.

There can be several reasons over production or poor drainage of histamine.

  • An underlying food allergy that generates excessive histamine production.
An overgrowth of harmful gut bacteria that produce histamine as a byproduct.
  • Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) can also be a contributor, the mast cells overproduce histamine (usually post severe illness).
  • The placenta also produces significant amounts of histamine during pregnancy and for some women this high histamine level can result in morning sickness.

Reducing your Histamine Load

Consuming foods with high histamine content can increase the body's total histamine burden, potentially triggering symptoms.

Following a low histamine diet can reduce histamine levels, thereby alleviating symptoms whilst the underlying cause of elevated histamine levels is investigated.

The Nourish Histamine Intolerance Food Guide is a great guide to reducing overall histamine load to get symptoms under control.

Getting to the root cause of histamine intolerance is important, but in the meantime trialing a low histamine diet and taking histamine support supplements may help to ease your overall symptoms.
Keep a food/symptom diary and note what meals flare you and what meals make you feel good.

Listening to your body is really important.

Hope this helps
